September 15: Creative gift wrapping

J. was invited to his best friend’s birthday party today. While the gift was the usual Toys R’ Us fare (Lego, to be  more precise), we decided to wrap it in a more creative/unusual way. D. wrapped it in butcher paper, which  J. decorated with rubber stamps. I made a button using a template that came with my button maker.

J. made the birthday card using stamps and stickers:

The way I see it, any activity that uses an ink pad that looks like this

is one that is good for the soul. My child stated that this was much more fun than buying regular wrapping paper and a card, and the mess we made

must also be good for the soul.

The final product:

He had a great time at the party, and we managed to teach him another lesson, even if futile in the long run, that consumerism is not nearly as fun as creativity.

    I love the homemade wrapping paper. I’ve used Trader Joe bags in the past for butcher like paper, but where do you get butcher paper. Do you remember sending/ receiving packages in brown paper?
